Publications in doctor’s professional journals
In the last few years the NCL Foundation has managed to place various articles on Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (Batten’s Disease) in medical or professional journals.
In July 2010 NCL appeared as the focal topic in the professional magazine "The Ophthalmologist". Four contributions examine the children’s disease from various angles.
One publication “Imagine a child going blind and that is just the beginning…“ appeared in the December 2009 issue of the member’s magazine of the Professional Association of German Opthalmologists (Berufsverband der Augenärzte Deutschland e.V. BVA) “Der Augenarzt”, which is published by the Kaden publishing house. We thank Mrs Heusel and Dr. Diehm for their positive cooperation enabling this success.
With the help of the Elsevier publishers an online article was placed on the home page of the publisher in December 2009. This is very positive since many doctors also inform themselves of current developments in medicine online. In the article, paediatricians and neurologists in particular are made aware of Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis. You will find the link to the article here: http://www.elsevier.de/news-uebersicht/beitrag/degenerative-hirnerkrankungen-bei-kindern.
In issue 38. Jg. (2007) No. 9 of the doctor’s journal "The Paediatrician" NCL professional training was featured under the title: “The Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinoses". This publication was initiated by the NCL Foundation. In the same issue there was a separate article about the work of the NCL Foundation.
The first medical, scientific publication initiated by the NCL Foundation was the following one: "Relevance of ophthalmic diagnostics for looking after patients with juvenile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis" (by Prof. K. Rüther et al., 2006 appeared in "Klinische Monatsblätter für Augenheilkunde"). This publication was sent to all eye hospitals in Germany and Austria in order to draw attention to the disease and to offer continuing professional education in this area.
