First NCL Teacher Training in Berlin 2010

For the teacher training “DNA Mutations: Diagnosis and Therapy Using Genetic Techniques,” held on September 12th 2010, the NCL-Foundation was happy to host several high-profile speakers. Prof. Dr. Karl Sperling, director of the Institute for Human Genetics at the Campus Virchow Clinic in Berlin, for example, spoke on the Human Genome Project and its significance for genetic diagnosis and counseling.

In addition, Dr. James Adjaye, stem cell researcher and group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin, spoke about the opportunities and risks of stem cell therapy. These comments were supplemented by Ms. Iris Dyck, mother of a child affected with late-infantile NCL, who shared her experiences with human genetics/stem cell therapy.

2010 Teacher Meeting in Hamburg

On March 29th 2010, for the first time, there was a meeting of all teachers who participate in the Learning Partnerships for A-level Specialization project, held in the laboratory of Dr. Fenner & Colleagues in Hamburg. Ideas for improvement and stories of success were discussed with regard to individual modules of the school project.  In addition to the teachers, Dr. Krasemann, Dr. Stuebe (NWZ) and Mr. Hagemann also took part in the meeting.

This time Dr. Krasemann from the laboratory of Dr. Fenner and colleagues was also a training partner. He gave a lecture on humanistic counseling and pre-implementation diagnostic (PID).  Additionally, the participants were led by Ms. Reinelt and Ms. Worthmann through the discussion game “Decide” through the topic of PID, which is excellent as a teaching model.

1st 2009 Teacher Training

On March 30th 2009, the Foundation set up a training seminar for the first time on the topic ''human genetic counseling" together with a genetic diagnostic laboratory. In addition to the lectures by several experts, a tour through the laboratory and a visit to a fully-automated analysis street were part of the event, which simultaneously served to present the project “Profile partnership with the NCL Foundation and cooperation partners”.   The Foundation is pleased with the friendly cooperation of Dr. Fenner, Dr. Krasemann, and colleagues.
