British Day - The British Lifestyle Event
August 30th/31st 2008, Hamburger Polo Club (Jenischstrasse 26, 22609 Hamburg-Klein-Flottbek)
Every year the British Day Festival draws scores of people to the Hamburg Polo Club. What other occasion brings Great Britain this close to Hamburg? Visitors can look forward to countless attractions such as wanging a welly, tossing the caber, Jack Russell races, the Scottish Highland Games, etc. Not only cultural events, but also culinary goodies such as Fish&Chips and Cornish Pasties wait to be tasted.
The highlight of the weekend is the British Day Open Air Prom Concert on Saturday, 30th of August (admission 6:30pm; start 8:30pm), where flag-waving, picnicking under the stars and wonderful classical music provide an electric atmosphere not to be missed. This year top British conductor Russell N. Harris will lead the Philharmonie Suedwestfalen and will be supported by "Opera Interludes" from London.
The aim of BCCG British Day eV is to stage a fun-filled family event to give the British Chamber of Commerce in Germany a forum to present their products and services to a wider general public. The event also raises money for local children's charities in Hamburg, while promoting Anglo-Geman links. This year the NCL-Foundation and Freundeskreis Die Arche will be supported with the event's revenue.
