Lipids are basic building blocks of all cell and organelle membranes and their integrity and renewal are essential for neuronal function and survival.

A better understanding of the changes in the neuronal lipid profile could provide a new basis for therapeutic approaches for the most common NCL form CLN3, the juvenile NCL.

The collaborating partner in this project is Prof. Martin Giera from Leiden University Medical Center, NL. The analysis of lipid profiles will be performed using a mass spectrometry platform co-developed by him (the “Neurolipid Atlas").

We would like to thank the Reinhard Frank Foundation for funding the project and wish Christian and his group every success!
